Beyond Chaotic – “Don’t Want It”

Beyond Chaotic – ”Don’t Want It”

Siblings Alex and May started this band back in 2015 and it sounds like they’ve been through a couple of iterations.  Now that it’s just the two of them fronting the effort, they seem to be settling into a sound they’re comfortable with – a poppy punk genre that strikes a chord with the high school crowd.

“Don’t Want It” starts with a chunky riff with what must be a Fender.  Full band comes in repeating the theme and maintaining the vibe through the chorus featuring the same chords of the head – it works well.  The drum tones are bigger than we expected for a track like this, more rock than punk but it works.  “I got it stuck in my head…” is exactly right, we’ve got the riff swinging an ice pick in our brain – it’s really catchy, but that’s what poppy punk is – simple.

The 3rd chorus after solo features a nice back & forth lead line swap reiterating the theme of having it stuck in your head.  Call it a round, call it call and response – whatever – it drives the point home for this radio friendly track.

They are obviously on to something that works.  They’re starting to get some shows outside of their native Florida and got picked up for the Extreme Tour which has been known to break a few artists with their youth and faith-oriented platform.  The danger that punk bands like this can fall into is sounding too much like a predecessor.  If they can continue to find lyrical topics that relate to todays youth, and original riffs, they should do very well.
