Space Cadets – “Wars of Expansion”

Space Cadets – Wars of Expansion

There’s more than one band with this name, so be sure you grab the right one – we believe that they are from Quebec, based upon their bandcamp page.

What interests us about this band is the vocal delivery and lyrical set up.  Beefed up, lyrically wrapping over verses – with standard singing in the chorus.  Kind of reminds of Linkin Park, but, also very 80’s – like Parquet Courts, Pete Shelley, Gary Newman.  It’s really interesting – we’d love to get your feedback on what you hear because we think they’re pretty unique.

Starting off, it’s a mellotron vibe, then guitars, drums and the groove sets in.  Here come the vocals with their unique delivery.  We sat here for like 20 minutes diving through every reference we could think of and it hits us differently every time.  With the chorus – it’s a bit more “commercial,” and the diction is unique.  2nd verse, back to the unique delivery, and then the delivery of the 2nd chorus brings us right back to that diction and pronunciation that we haven’t heard from anyone else before.  Great tones on the drums and guitars.  The solo has some unique choices, and then there’s a lovely keyboard breakdown that sets up the ending.  It left us wanting more, but we’re not disappointed because the track and band are so unique.

Granted, that’s kind of a rambling review of this song, but I hope it comes across positive.  I’m sure in a few days I’ll have a better reference point, but that’s a good thing because I want to listen to it again and again – we hope you will too.  (Maybe they remind us of Rammstein?!)
