MegaSnake – Another Lesson Learned

Listen up all you young punks who wanna play metal but completely missed out on Sunset Strip, Whitesnake, and kick ass Nordic influences – this is a band you should follow.  Heavy tones, thoughtful chord progressions, soaring riffs and killer vocals.  This is how you do it.

“Another Lesson Learned” starts off with a Lemmy vibe and tears into a vocally soaring 1st verse over a fist pounding riff in b minor.  PreChorus comes in and descends into a new melody and guitar riff, leading us down a different path as they play off the six and seven.  Then with the chorus, we’re hit with an unexpected key change to E major that opens up the vibe.  This is a great example of how each section of a song should be treated as a different room of the house, so to speak.  The transitions through the first minute are flawless, and it never loses its strength.  It’s in this capacity that they display their love for prog-rock, not just metal, and we love how they hit the flat six of the E as they come out of the chorus.  Jumping to the guitar solo, it starts off with a change in groove that reminds us of Living Color.  (Any of you young knuckleheads know that band? Huh?!) The solo itself shows off the technical prowess that only comes from mastering your craft.  Beautiful work, Mr. Hjelt!

This is one of 8 tracks of their album, “Charming” which comes on the heels of 3 singles in 2021.  Reading an interview they did for KKDowning.net, these fellas have been on the Finnish music scene for quite some time as individuals, but as a group they’re relatively young.  You’d never know it by listening to their tracks.  You can tell their influences by their name, and the grooves they have definitely remind us of Coverdale and Mustaine. (Did I really hear a Theremin in “All in Good Time”?!)

When they’re not rocking out, they’re practicing their folk dancing moves and posting the videos on Facebook.  Think we’re kidding?  We’re as serious as their music.  Check it out.
