Channeling the greats with her own tone
Atlanta based soulstress Tabitha King showcases her talent and control with the mid-tempo jam, “Unconditionally,” a song of empowerment about choosing and following your own path.
The track is a steady sway, as easy as a Sunday drive with her voice as the engine of this smooth ride. In true R&B style, there are some lovely accoutrements instrumentally throughout the song – lovely piano riffs and extensions, bell trees, a fluid bass line and steady drum track keeping it all together. Collectively it’s a nice collage and doesn’t get in the way of her smooth riffs. Sometimes she reminds us of Anita, sometimes Gladys, and other times Oleta, but thankfully she has enough of her own tone that you believe the message and know she’s authentic.
You should definitely check out her other track, “Secret Love Song.” Twenty seconds in she hits a scorcher of a note on the phrase “I’m Yours….” that’ll hook you into the rest of the song. These are the chops that has earned her shows around the world and a residency in Thailand that lasted close to 10 years. She’s been featured on TV shows, staged plays, and performed with artists like Usher, Outkast, Boys II Men, Ollie Woodson, The Whispers, Keith Sweat, and more. Now that she’s based in Atlanta, here’s hoping we’ll get more great tracks from her soon.
