Lindsey Webster, “I Didn’t Mean It”

Lindsey Webster, I Didn’t Mean It

This Woodstock, NY native has added to her impressive list of tracks with the latest release, “I Didn’t Mean It,” written and produced by her and Keith Slattery. On September 9th of this year, the duo will be releasing her 6th album since 2013.

She has stated in her interviews that she doesn’t want to sing about things she doesn’t know about, so, we’re curious as to the full story of the lyrics of this catchy R&B tune.  It’s relatable – we all get caught up in the moment, and the instrumentation does a great job of backing up her solid alto chops.

After a snare fill, a crisp solo of piano extensions kicks this off before she joins us, wondering if she’s overthinking about a guy who doesn’t text or call, while knowing that she didn’t mean to display such strong a connection – and therefore recognizing the predicament.  In the chorus, the backgrounds split in the speakers to drive the hook and title, before a horn and synth riff leads us into another smooth verse with a PJ Morton, side stick vibe.  Her vocals are spot on.  Classy.  Not overstated.  Hitting the high notes in full voice or falsetto in solid display that is not arrogant or pushy as we head into the 2nd chorus.  And then comes the trombone.  There’s not enough trombone solos anymore. Seriously.  Whoever thought it would be a good idea in this tune, bless you – you were spot on, and so was the playing.  All in all it’s a well rounded track that we believe a lot of single women can relate to.  We hope this gets some serious airplay.

She appears to be a regular on the east coast jazz club circuit, and it’s not hard to see why.  She’s had several tracks chart on Billboard and has released four records since 2015.  Here’s hoping her tours can take her to other parts of the country – her style of R&B would definitely play well on the West Coast.
