Jarrod Lawson – Footsteps in the Dark
Ever since his 2014 debut record, Jarrod Lawson has been blowing crowds away with a voice beyond his years, and a touch at the keyboard that oozes soul.
“Footsteps in the Dark” is a mood. A smooth groove with simple bass, drum and clav parts that lay the foundation for a funky guitar riff on one side, Rhodes on the other and a synth solo that exhibits a masterful display of pitch bend and portamento. And then, you have his vocals. PJ Morton, Al Green, Allan Stone, Bobby Caldwell….we hear all of that, plus a unique tone that helps him stand out.
We like to feature primarily unsigned artists on this blog, but we couldn’t help write about Jarrod. He’s uniquely talented. There’s no reason why he shouldn’t be sharing the stage with the best in the business. A night with him and Jamie Cullum, or Adele, or PJ Morton would be stratospheric – he’ll probably get there.
