Second Hand Sound

Second Hand Sound, first rate rock with the release of “Darby.”

Perhaps the name is a nod to the influences of Space Hog, Radiohead and Blur (we’re assuming, here), but don’t let the name fool you, there’s first rate tones coming out of this band. They’re another great example of Nashville’s powerful rock scene that continues to base itself on quality writing, quality tones, and quality production.

The new release of “Darby” highlights their ability to create melodic riffs and memorable phrases. They’ve done a great job of merging analog guitar and drums tones with a hint of modern keyboards (that’s where I’m picking up on the Space Hog vibe). There’s also a bit of an Eels feel to their lyrics; a bit of subtle quirkiness, relishing the pain of pain, and enjoying being alone despite saying the opposite (I’m referencing the story line of texting in the 2nd verse).

It’s no surprise that most of their releases have several hundred thousand streams, and that they’ve been supporting acts like Jimmy Eat World and Dashboard Confessional. If they can continue on this path, the switch will be flipped and they’ll be the headliners at bigger shows. Nice work boys!
