Behind this mask is a damn good writer.

Here’s an interesting project that came across our desk this week out of Hamilton, ONT – “The Foole.”  In listening to “Love Lies Blind,” and “U Make Me Smile,” we love how well these songs were constructed.  Great melodies and progressions, sections that are articulate and distinguishable from each other while still tied nicely together, and a production that doesn’t get in the way.

U Make Me Smile reminds us of every great full-band pop song of the 90’s.  Think Fastball, the Rembrandts or even Jellyfish.  The sections of this song are so well constructed, and the key change at the end is so fricking good.  Dig how the artist hits the flat 6 chord in the verse when you don’t expect it – it’s a beautiful trick that shows this writer knows their theory.  And the background harmonies are perfectly constructed.  The track builds perfectly throughout it’s 3:28 life.  Whomever the masked person is behind this gem should teach a class.

Love Lies Blind throws off the same vibes.  So very catchy.  Lovely melody over the chord changes, and a voice that is perfect for the genre.  The little interludes between the well-defined sections are very Beatle-esque – not a note gets wasted.  What’s so great about songs like that this is that they could be really sad, but the presentation is so upbeat and positive that you get lost in the positive vibes of the music, not necessarily the topic.  You don’t realize you’re shouting along to “happiness is overrated, loneliness is where it’s at,” because you’re jumping up and down with a huge smile on your face.

Anonymous artists like this have no middle ground to stand on.  If they’re going to hide their face, they better be damn good.  The Foole is.  The songs are worth it.  Check out this project!
