Sven Ross

I always enjoy hearing songs in English that were written by someone who speaks multiple languages. They have a different way with words - a different way to tie them together, a thought process of rhyming and phrasing that is inevitably influenced by their Mother Tongue. Case in point, Sven Ross from Holland.

He must be doing something right. With just 8 singles released since 2021, he’s already racked up over 500,000 streams and a growing list of followers. He’s got an easy-going tone reminiscent of Ed Sheeran, and a musical style that is perfect for mass appeal with nothing too aggressive and mostly positive vibes (even when his heart is breaking). Here’s our review of his latest track, Between You and Me.

It’s a stripped down track, starting with piano and vocals. The lyrics are intimate, descriptive and ripe with imagery. With the first few phrases, you get the feeling that he’s able to convey what most guys can’t - an appreciation of love and vulnerability that women wish we would express more of. After the first stanza, a beautiful string section warms us over - letting the cello take the bulk of the work so that his voice and the right hand of the piano express the melody and chords with exceptional quality. The second section, or stanza, continues this story of intimacy and nothing coming between these two lovers. A lovely “solo section” lets the violin’s take the lead before we get to a beautifully constructed bridge where he confesses his love. The breakdown that follows brings us back to the beginning vibe before the strings come back in briefly to set up the ending. Lyrically, it’s a wonderful tale of appreciation and love. As I eluded to above, I enjoy his implementation of lyrics and the phrases he chooses. It’s unique and will go over well with any audience who appreciates a brutally honest love song. They don’t need the spotlight - what they have between the two of them is good enough.

Exceptional job on the mix and arrangement. It’s very easy to get the EQ and compression settings off in a song like this that’s so delicate. Kudos to the production team for a solid mix with minimal effects. It’s very warm, very inviting, has great dynamics and is sure to be well received.

Make sure you scroll down to catch his socials and other tracks. No Man’s Land is a favorite - great sway vibe to it, Easy has a nice David Gray feel and a beautiful progression through the chorus. Best of luck with this release, Sven!
