Me & T

Me & T

Me & T is an English and German pop duo with an exceptionally solid vocal offering that separates them from their peers. The married couple (Tristan and Tamara - me & T, get it?) have released an album, an EP and a host of singles since 2021 in the experimental pop genre. They’ve got quite the impressive catalog of tunes and an absolute mastery of melody over great chord changes - here’s our review of their latest, Apology.

An ominous and lone b3 (the note, not the instrument) starts off before the vocals and beat drop in around 54 BPM. It’s a deep swing beat and with the second phrase of vocals from Tamara we get a taste of her stunning vocal capabilities. First verse is really unique - just chords via sweeping pads, the beat, and her vocals. With the break the comes before the first chorus we’re hooked - where is this going to go? With the chorus we get a solid melody and chord progression (4 6- 3- 4 1) - love this, don’t get this too often, and just when we think they’re going to repeat it, a second section comes along that pushes the boundaries of modern pop - check out the progression they use here, 1, 4, flat 6, flat 5, 2, 4 ) - damn. Who does that?! Best part about it is that it works beautifully underneath the melody - this is stunning writing.

Second verse and second chorus absolutely wash over us. This melody, progression and production has me thinking of Tori Kelly being produced by Irvin Berlin, with Jack Antonoff picking the tones. The bridge takes us to a darker, descending progression and tone. And in the background you have a host of runs and riffs from Tamara that are off the charts. The final chorus is a chorus of Tamaras’, and it’s remarkable. There’s no reason a song like this shouldn’t absolutely take over the world and propel their career. It’s really rare when we hear something this solid. Lyrically, it sounds like she’s in a battle with herself - a battle about being a perfectionist - and understanding that she needs to go easier on herself. Great topic to write about, very relatable in today’s (stupidly) competitive world. Love the self-awareness she talks about with respect to how her body can tell what’s going on, and, how she needs to apologize for it. The turmoil she goes through is evident in the bridge, and we really love it when a solid producer can make a song sound like the way the words make us feel. Wow, great track.

Make sure you scroll down to catch their socials and other tracks. If you’re looking for some inspiration on vocal harmonies and BG’s you’re bound to get inspired by their work. Check out the parts and mix on Good to Be Alive - great harmonies and a very good job of splitting them up into different placements on the mix. You Say has a great chord progression accompanied by lush and tight BG’s - really well produced. Kids Running in the Streets has a straight up Pentatonix vibe with it’s vocal parts, paired up with their solid synth pad and beat choices. Solid work!
