Staff Party

Debut Single, Solo

Staff Party are a 6-piece indie-rock/dance-punk band based in Cork. The band consists of Jamie Kierans (lead vocals), Jake O’ Driscoll (guitar), Daniel Maguire (guitar), Christopher Hockey (bass), Alexa Newall (keyboard) and Jack O’ Hanlon (drums). All members met at MTU Cork School of Music where they are currently studying in the BA in Popular Music degree program. Different members of the band had already built up chemistry together under different guises before eventually getting together to form Staff Party. The band formed just before a Covid lockdown, so they started off by having zoom meetings and recording their parts separately at home, and working on songs this way. But finally, when restrictions eased, the band started rehearsing, and it wasn’t long before they sold out their debut headline show to 150 people. This led to a series of sold-out shows over the summer, eventually leading to their debut single ‘Solo’.

Originally, Jamie’s songwriting was solely influenced by indie-rock, but since forming the band, the other members influenced the writing to shift into a direction more inspired by dance beats, and heavier guitars. Each member brings something different to the table with their vastly contrasting influences, from math-rock to jazz, with the combining influence being dance-punk. It’s all these varying elements which gives us the unique style of Staff Party. It’s music which you can dance to, sing to and shout to.

If they were to cite particular bands as influences, there’s an interesting mix of The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Daft Punk, The Rapture and Parcels. However, their ethos is just as important as their sound. Staff Party want to have fun. They want to make music that is dedicated to having a good time. They want to dance, sing and shout.

“There seems to be quite a lot of sad music being released in the world today, and we want to do what we can to put a bit of joy out there. And that’s our mission statement. We’ll do everything we can to have a good time, and you’re always welcome to join us.”
