London Girls

Eric Alexandrakis is not your average artist. He’s a cancer fighter and survivor. He’s lived in Miami, New Jersey, London and Greece. He was instrumental in the creation of digital watermarking. He earned a Grammy nomination for his spoken word story about surviving cancer. He’s created content for major corporations and some of the biggest bands on the planet. And, mowed yards in Miami as a kid to earn the money to buy his first LP, Duran Duran’s “Seven and the Ragged Tiger.” It’s important to know all those things when you listen to a track like “London Girls” and take in all it’s influences - it’s pretty thick. Here’s our review:

Right from the start, we can tell this is someone who digs the 80’s pop of Gary Numan, Duran Duran and Pet Shop Boys. The first verse is an onslaught of vintage synth tones and vocals that are a mix of drone-like syllables and soaring melodies. It’s really thick, really quick, but doesn’t overpower you - it’s a great production. With the chorus, the melody and chords climb through a great progression that lets the whole thing soar. In the second verse, it becomes a mix of ELP and a country hoe-down with it’s two-step feel and B3 riffs. Lyrically, it’s about the beauty of London girls, and the variety of metaphors matches the diversity of the musical styles displayed in this 4:16 track - WHICH - when you think about it, synchs up perfectly with the variety of beauty you’re going to see in one of the world’s greatest and most diverse cities. Before the bridge, we get another taste of London with some tones that remind us of Big Ben, and then he throws a quick change up with the chord progression and a breakdown in the 3rd verse before we come back to a final chorus and shout-out outro. See the picture now? See what he’s doing? Understand how someone with such a complex background and education can create something so elegant, thick and transparent at the same time? It’s really, really good.

Scroll down and check out his socials and other releases (we count at least 29!). He’s also got a unique collection of photographs on his Instagram page that show you he’s more than just an audio artist, he’s visual too. Safe to say that Alexandrakis is an artist’s artist. We look forward to what he’ll be doing next!
