Danjul & Drama

In another interview, Danjul was asked how long he’s been making music. His response? Since he was in his mother’s womb, and judging by the response his first 8 tracks have received - we see no reason to doubt that. ;) His version of pop is quite thoughtful, more than just throw away lines and sultry vocals. The production is top shelf, and the image he’s created on his socials is right inline with someone on the verge of major success. Here’s our review of “Drama.”

Track starts with a killer synth riff that is very current. Then we’re hit with adlibs and BG’s panning in both ears and we know this track is killer mixed! As the first verse drops, there’s a rough edge portamento style bass line that swings underneath his vocals. Great feel, and a nice structural break from the intro. On the pre-chorus, it’s a breakdown with drums, a repeating vocal line that speaks to the frustrations of having your emotions toyed with, and then a will timed swell of analog brings us into the chorus. With the chorus, we get a great feel change and a focus on the title. That intro riff is back, the portamento bass line is expanded and hook is solid. Cool little breakdown after the first chorus, and then we’re into a hot and heavy second verse before we get back to that pre-chorus again, but this time, producer Nathan Bankston made a great call in expanding on the pre and making it more intense than the first pre. Smart. Back into the hook with all those great tones and we’re totalling digging the mix. Bridge is great breakdown. Make sure you listen to this with cans, as well as your best monitors to get the full effect. Visually, we can easily see this blasting off on a main stage - arena. They do a great job of creating a second bridge expanding on the lyrical theme, then we’re into two more choruses, with the last one being a stripped down version.

Lyrically speaking, this is a theme that’s highly relatable. If you’ve had a relationship go south, raise your hand if it was because there was too much drama. Keep ‘em up if you loved them, would do anything for them, gave them everything, but, the drama continued. Yep, thought so. That’s what makes this track relevant to so many - it’s not hard to understand why it’s pushing 100K streams on Spotify right now.

Make sure you check out his other tracks. If dance pop is your thing, you’ll add “Eyes on You” to your playlist, as well as “Dance to the Moon.” “The Path” has a great trance to it, vocally and rhythmically. We wouldn’t be surprised to see him on the major stages, soon.
