Kayley Bishop

Sunday Best, a song about not feeling that way.

There’s no denying that faith has always been central figure in Country music, and Kayley hits it out of the park with a sentiment that probably all of us have felt walking into church, more than once.

“No one will know you’re broken if you’re in your Sunday Best,” she sings to close out the chorus after a host of wonderful lyrics that depict what life does to so many of us - how it can make us believe that appearance is the most important thing. What appears to be a slant against church is not what she intends. As she mentions in a Facebook post that you should check out, the intent is to make you think about your true spiritual connection, not whether or not you are perfectly composed to walk in the doors of the church. I’ll leave it there for you to investigate further, and you should.

Production on this track is subtle and gorgeous. What we love about her voice is that she doesn’t sound like a standard female country singer - she’s got a bit more soul and depth, and you can tell that this is a meaningful song to her in her delivery. There’s some perfect mandolin playing by Todd Lombardo, and the chord changes in the chorus rise and fall with its most important lyrical points. It’s perfectly crafted. Rob McNelley adds a host of tasty licks and a nice solo. This job will done was produced by Eric Torres.

Kayley has at least ten tracks listed on her Spotify page and a strong social media presence. If she continues on the same quality path that she presents in “Sunday Best,” she’s got a great career ahead of her.
