Grace Graber and the “Conversation”

Grace Graber and the “Conversation”

Highlighting unsigned artists is what motivates us – and Grace falls right into that category.  This Nashville artist has crushed it once again with “Conversation,” produced by Blake Cross.  We could easily push this one over to the Pop page, but we’ll honor her roots and keep it in the Gospel & Praise genre.

Starting off, we get a Lauv vibe as she talks about talking to God, drinking, and writing songs to save lives.  As the pre-chorus builds, we anticipate a hit when the chorus drops but she sells the first chorus as delicately as the topic – struggling with mental health.  Second verse is solid build off the 1st chorus and the 2nd pre-chorus really starts to build with a very nice change in the chord progression.  We finally get that punch to the face when the 2nd chorus drops, followed by a nasty-toned guitar solo that sears the melody into our brain.  Bridge is nice – driving home the point that God is the same, regardless of our pain – and here comes the 3rd chorus in a strong payoff.  Great progression.  Great build.  Great production.

Graber could easily be a mainstream success in the pop world while still sticking to her CCM roots, and we mean that respectfully.  There’s a host of hugely successful artists that the audience has no idea are actually singing praise music; CCM in rock and roll form, gospel in folk, redemption in death metal.  U2, Amy Grant, The Killers, Sixpence None the Richer, the list goes on.  Grace has the chops to cross over – listen to the rest of her tracks on Spotify and you’ll probably agree.  Take a minute to read her blogs and you’ll get the backstory from this artist who grew up a PK in the PNW.  Her journey has led her to Nashville, and she’s fitting in just fine.
