I’ve Tried Sleeping

Out Here on Our Own

I’ve Tried Sleeping is a new band of musicians from the Spokane area, the song “Out Here on Our Own” is one of 10 songs from an LP that are currently being released, song by song. If you’ve ever been out to that part of the country (the high desert that’s east of the Cascades and west of the Rockies), you’ll identify with the tones and lyrics of this project. Here’s our review of the track:

It’s an all start from the band, four bars of up tempo with a great groove and a solid riff from the lead player. Tones are classic and analog, mix is good, compression on point - this should be a good ride. First verse barrels in and it’s like driving the open road between Moses Lake and Spokane. We’re getting vibes like the Bo Deans or Gin Blossoms. Charlie Edwards has a seasoned and passionate vocal delivery. Lyrics are uplifting, despite proclaiming that we’re all out here along, in the world and in the swirl.

Post-chorus break has a nice twice with that chordal drop to the 5 - that adds just the right amount of tension and suspense. Before the second verse, we get the riff again that we dig and we love that B3 in the background. Drum tones are beautiful, that snare is killer. Quality of the mix and production continues as there’s just enough room for everyone. On their socials, Charlie talks about how this entire project is designed to be played loud - and the quality of the production certainly makes that easy.

Absolutely love the chord and key change in the bridge and brief solo section. If Charlie’s goal was to show (musically) that change is healthy in life, when you’re out here all alone, this section does a great job of exemplifying that. Dig it. Great build up coming out of the bridge into the head riff (and back to the original key) that makes the song explode. This is an arm’s wide open, sunny day driving jam that will resonate with anyone of experience who’s recognized that there’s beauty in being out here all alone in this world, and that success or failure is up to you. Great frickin’ track. Here are the liner notes:

Charlie Edwards • Vocals & Guitar
Jay Condiotti • Lead Guitar & Recording Engineer
Eddie Ramirez • Bass
AJ Ramirez • Drums & Percussion
Kelly Porter • Organ & Synth
