Sleeping Together

Sleeping Together with “Summer Girl”

Sleeping Together is a new project out of the Northwest UK.  Not much is known about this quartet just yet, but they’ve put together a strong single for their first release, “Summer Girl,” and we got a sneak peak (or listen)!

Track starts with an 8-bar full band intro, and some great counterplay between a solo riff on the left, and rhythm pattern on the right.  Great mix.  First verse and pre-chorus do a great job of setting up the payoff in the chorus and the blend of all the guitar tones lets you know that this is a solid band.  Call me crazy, but I have always believed you could tell an American pop / rock band versus a British pop / rock band by the sound of their amps.  Yeah, sure, the accent of the vocalist is going to give it away but there’s a wider tone that’s found in British acts.  I think it’s perfectly displayed here.  Their guitars sound like Oasis meets Travis meets Big Country – great tones.

Second verse has a great twist in the lyrics.  You don’t expect the line, but it’s absolutely logical in terms of the story and it makes you question your initial impression of who this band might be.  With the second chorus you’re wondering if this isn’t the song of the summer – great hook, it hits you harder the second time around.

Great breakdown of half-time after the 2nd chorus, with an unexpected ending (that once again proves my theory about the amp sounds from British bands).

We were all pleasantly surprised by this track.  The more I listened to it, the more I liked it.  I can’t wait to hear what they do next.
