Don’t Mess with Exes

Since they started their band in 2016, Texas sisters Kelli and Kayla have released over 20 songs and made a considerable name for themselves in their home state. With their latest single, “Don’t Mess With Exes,” they’ve released an in-your-face pop rock track that’s bound to increase their solid fan base. Here’s our review.

Track starts with a blazing guitar riff and a proclamation from Kayla that perfectly sets the tone. Kelli takes the second half of the first verse is the same, unapologetic fashion to drive home the point. the pre-chorus brings a nice breakdown in the beat and mix to let us catch our breath! With the chorus, the sisters share the lead with soaring vocals as the band goes full tilt. This is the kind of chorus that has young women jumping and screaming along with every word. The catch phrase / hook, is a wonderful play on words from the “Don’t Mess with Texas” slogan made famous in the 80’s.

Second verse continues this anthem to single women with some great interplay between the sisters before the second chorus blows up in our face again. The bridge is one of those sections that could be stretched out in a live setting, it’s got great crowd feels - we can see a crowd of fans shouting the second line. :) ! The entire track is well mixed and produced, fitting perfectly in the genre. A radio edit would be required for terrestrial radio but it matches up toe to toe with Avril, Olivia and Demi.

Kelli and Kayla are building an impressive catalog of music. Favorite tracks of theirs include “Rolling with the Stones,” “Cut U Off,” and “What if We Never Met.” This one is the edgiest so far, and easily our favorite. If you’re a native of the Houston area make sure you check out their socials - they play out quite a bit! We look forward to what they’ll be doing next!
