Juna N Joey

Family ties & harmonies.

When Joey and Juna began posting covers on YouTube and TikTok, people immediately noticed their tone and chemistry, and a massive following ensued. They started releasing some covers on Spotify back in 2019 (always a good way to build a following when you’re starting out), and then their first EP in 2022. They’ve been featured on CMT, Heartland, The Country Network, Music Choice, Newsmax and Nickelodeon, numerous charts and playlists and have even gigged outside the country. Very impressive beginning for these Florida natives who now call Nashville home. Their latest track, “I’m So Over You,” adds a solid track to their impressive catalog. Here’s our review.

Track starts with an 4 bar intro and then Juna takes the first verse. It flows well from her lower register as she sets the stage of a love gone wrong. Lyrically it’s really strong, it goes from promise and excitement to questions and despair in a nice rhyme scheme. Chorus drops in with the full band and there’s a change up in the lyrical flow - more drawn out - and we get to hear her great falsetto control. Sonically, the mix and tones are absolutely perfect. This is a good as any major mix coming out of Nashville. The kick tone is probably our favorite - nice attack with a pillow punch. The drum pattern is very tasty, especially on the back end of the chorus with the bell hits on the ride. Joey takes the shortened second verse as Juna moves over to background, creating that blended tone that only comes from a family relationship. We’re back into the chorus and then a short and tasty guitar solo before they trade lines in the bridge. Its an altered double chorus out with more great falsetto adlibs from Juna. Written by Joey, Juna and Midian Mathers, this is a solid example of how to write a great country pop song, how to mix it, and how to create enough space in the production to not have anything get in the way of anything else. Well done.

Moving to a Music City to chase your dreams is daunting. One of the best things you can do is come here with a solid repertoire of songs and a strong social media following. Juna N Joey have that, and more. They could easily become as successful and Maddie and Tae (one of our favorites), or Dan & Shay. It’ll be fun to see how far they’ll go, they’re definitely further along than most.
