Farrow & the Peach Leaves

All Blue

Here’s a great band from the high country of California that has a laid back Americana style, great analog tones and solid writing. They’ve been releasing material since 2019 and have a steady list of gigs under their belt. The track was written by lead singer Graham Farrow Knibb and is the first single off of a record that is dropping on December 9th. It’s hard to pinpoint a direct influence on them - primarily because of Knibb’s unique voice and storytelling - which is absolutely a good thing. There’s a lot of blues, rock, and country all mixed together. Here’s our review of All Blue.

It’s an all-start around 96 BPM after a cool slide in from Hunter Jones on the lap steel. Wide open guitar chords and laid back groove for four bars before Graham comes in on top with his distinct vocals. A standout for me right away is how the bass player (Leif Bonfils) moves to the 6 at the back end of the phrase (Measure 10) to open up the sonic structure of the first verse. Great chord changes underneath the line “don’t mean to complain” that sets up the brief chorus which fits the song well. Lyrically it’s a tale of trials of life - high in the saddle, down the valley - we all struggle with hard times that we don’t get to choose from, they choose us.

After the second chorus there’s a really cool breakdown around 1:40 that shows this is a band not afraid to take risks. It’s as if they planned it to give us all some time to ponder the lyrical message. It comes back in with a twin guitar solo section that reminds us a bit of the Allman Brothers or Mother’s Finest. This would be great to see live - it could be an amazing jam when stretched out. Then we’re back to a high spirited outro chorus and a radio friendly ending just over three minutes. This track has KBCO, KEXP and WMOT written all over it (hint, hint). Solid Americana with an unexpected twist in the middle. Love it!

Make sure you scroll down to catch their socials and their other tracks. Beer for Breakfast has a similar tempo and vibe to All Blue that’ll have you nodding along and Catch a Glimpse gets a little dirtier, channeling some Black Crowes feels. Jack Kerouac is probably our favorite - especially since “On the Road” is one of our favorite books. We definitely get travelling vibe with this song. If you like your rock on the side of Americana and Country, this is a band to check out. We look forward to their full record coming out in December!
